About Us

Mission and Vision
Through patient safety innovation and education, we challenge traditional thinking to eliminate preventable harm.
Our History
Originally launched in 2016 as The Institute for Patient Safety, the center was created as a collaborative effort among key regional healthcare partners to address preventable harm and improve patient outcomes across Texas.
Funded by the Texas Legislature, the institute was established with four key purposes that continue to guide its work today:
- Develop educational programs and student training focused on patient safety.
- Host an annual Patient Safety Summit to convene experts, share best practices and promote statewide collaboration.
- Provide seed grant funding to support innovative, small-scale patient safety projects.
- Advance research, mentorship and a growing network of patient safety fellows committed to improving care delivery.
Our new name, Texas Center for Patient Safety, reflects a renewed commitment to these founding goals.
